Most observers see Sarah Palin's decision not to run for re-election as clearing the decks for the 2012 presidential campaign. Is the fact she'll only have one term under her belt discourage her supporters?

I think not!

in case anyone is interesting here's a link to the full text of her resignation speech today

my favorite line is her quote from MacArthur "we're not retreating we're advancing in another direction"

She's obviously in good company, then, LL.

Sarah's announcement of her resignation as Governor of Alaska today is cause for wide-spread speculation, I suspect that Palin is the only one who knows what is really going on. Politicians as a rule do not resign their positions to pursue other avenues to get involved in the fight as Palin implied today.

Our current Pres was only a freshman Senator and spent the middle two years of his first term campaigning for our highest office, after he said that he was not interested in running. Go figure!

Sarah is, if anything a refreshing independent conservative spirit, and a fresh face. I gotta wonder though if her resignation will not amount to political suicide down the road. I hope that's not the case.

Time will tell I guess.

the scuttlebutt that I'm reading is that there may very well be major ethics issues revolving around her awarding of a construction contract (huge athletic building in Wasilla) to a company that then provided a lot of "free" materials for her house that was built by Todd and his "buddies".

Whatever the issue is I'm happy to say "Sayonara Sarah", but I doubt she'll be gone for long.

another classic from her was talking about not "taking the quitter's way out" by quitting as governor.

huh?

oh and btw re: MacArthur, there are plenty of folks who thought MacArthur, like Palin, was more about their own ego than effective leadership.

She may very well not know herself, eh?

Palin sold her book for mucho dinero, Trig will need full-time attention, and just maybe Sarah's lark as a real-life professional politician has lost it's amusment value.

Maybe not. The spotlight is awfully hard for a prima donna to surrender.

Perhaps Sarah will campaign to convince women to have more Down's syndrome children (she recently stated the USA needs more of these unfortunates!!)

I sure don't expect to see Palin in a March of Dimes walk-a-thon!!

Acta est fabula, plaudite!

I for one welcome Palin's participation in the national dialogue. She certainly has had no issues telling it like she sees it, and no spin doctors are involved, she is certainly independent, unique and entertaining, something that the body politic has been woefully lacking. We should all be thankful that such a beacon emerged from the 2008 campaign.

As I've mentioned during the McCain campaign, the left sees her as a threat. I see no reason to change my assessment now.

As concerns ethics, LL, she was recently cleared of all charges from a ginned up ethics complaint, if you didn't notice.

Where do you get your information that the left sees Palin as a threat? Most of what I've read sees her as a joke, not a threat.

Perhaps the all-around description that fits Palin the best is 'loose cannon'. This from the Vanity Fair article:

More than once in my travels in Alaska, people brought up, without prompting, the question of Palin’s extravagant self-regard. Several told me, independently of one another, that they had consulted the definition of “narcissistic personality disorder” in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders—“a pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy”—and thought it fit her perfectly. When Trig was born, Palin wrote an e-mail letter to friends and relatives, describing the belated news of her pregnancy and detailing Trig’s condition; she wrote the e-mail not in her own name but in God’s, and signed it “Trig’s Creator, Your Heavenly Father.”

It's obvious, that's why they've attacked her non-stop since her nomination. If she's not a threat, why bother?

God bless John McCain.

Ratings, which translate into profits. Jokes about Palin and her family get the best reactions and guffaws from the audience.

Don't imagine for a minute the laugh-a-thon will stop now.

Low-brow, maybe.  But this is the culture we have right now.  They're voyeristic, selfindulgent, and desire quick and cheap solutions.  We want the Three Stooges (as a nation) and don't get Monty Python.  And our politicians give it to us just that same way.  Just look at NY politicians for example. Comedy is about mass-appeal.

That would be a really tough nut to crack, but I'd agree that Albany might be a close second place.
