Chicago and Albany have nothing on Louisiana when it comes politics of the absurd.

Back on topic, I think the jokes about Palin reflect her lowbrow politics, lack of awareness and tabloid family life. She's an easy target, eh?

Palin's done it again - can we really expect anything different?

Here’s what Palin said on her Facebook page last Friday, in her first online comments since quitting as Alaska governor.

“The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s ‘death panel’ so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their ‘level of productivity in society’ whether they are worthy of health care.”

This is pure fantasy, fact-free in its entirety. The nonpartisan group FactCheck.org said there was no basis for such a claim in any of the health care bills under consideration in Congress. One House bill would pay for counseling for terminally ill patients — something anyone who has lost an elderly loved one of late, as I have, will find essential.

After tossing out this red meat to her rabid supporters, she then seemingly called for restraint in the health care town hall meetings.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/postpartisan/2009/08/sarah_palin_calls_forrestraint.html?hpid=opinionsbox1

Is it any wonder that some are moved to violent threats against Congressmen and the President, given the level of misinformation being injected into the system by Palin and her ilk? If you really believed that Obama was going to kill your baby and euthanize your parents, well — why not act in self defense?

Meanwhile, the Alaska Legislature has has overridden Palin’s veto of stimulus money for energy efficiency, with a majority of both Republicans and Demos voting to accept the Federal offer.

Palin has repeated her statement about "death panels" - a grotesque lie about a provision that would merely allow Medicare to pay doctors for voluntary counseling sessions that address end-of-life issues. Topics include living wills, designating a close relative or a trusted friend as a health care proxy and information about pain medications for chronic discomfort.

The measure would block funds for counseling that presents suicide or assisted suicide as an option, Congressman Earl Blumenauer said, calling references to death panels or euthanasia "mind-numbing."

"It's a blatant lie, and everybody who has checked it agrees," he said.

Republican Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski said this week that Palin and other critics were not helping the GOP by throwing out false claims.

"Quite honestly, I'm so offended at that terminology, because it absolutely isn't" in the bill, Murkowski said. "There is no reason to gin up fear in the American public by saying things that are not included in the bill."

Georgia Sen. Johnny Isakson, a Republican who co-sponsored a similar measure in the Senate, said it was "nuts" to claim the bill encourages euthanasia.

"You're putting the authority in the individual rather than the government," Isakson said. "I don't know how that got so mixed up."

How did that get so mixed up? Consider the source, eh?

Score one for Palin and the know-nothing set - the provision for voluntary counseling sessions that address end-of-life issues has been stricken from proposed healthcare legislation.

All too ionic when you consider that such counseling had strong support from so-called pro-life groups, and had been written by a self-described pro-life Republican, Johnny Isakson.

Sarah continues her march to the GOP 2012 Presidential nomination!

I think this actually means that the provision will not be contained in any proposed legislation coming up for a committee vote.

You know how the press is - dumbing down descriptions for the great unwashed. For example, our local weather folks mimic the U.S. Weather Service by talking about "normal" temperatures, when what they are actually presenting are averages.

Well, well, well - turns out Palin was in favor of these "death panels" (end of life counseling) when she was Governor of Alaska!

On April 16th 2008, then Gov. Sarah Palin endorsed some of the same end of life counseling she now decries as a form of euthanasia. In a proclamation announcing “Healthcare Decisions Day,” Palin urged public facilities to provide better information about advance directives, and made it clear that it is critical for seniors to be informed of such options:

WHEREAS, Healthcare Decisions Day is designed to raise public awareness of the need to plan ahead for healthcare decisions, related to end of life care and medical decision-making whenever patients are unable to speak for themselves and to encourage the specific use of advance directives to communicate these important healthcare decisions. [...]

WHEREAS, one of the principal goals of Healthcare Decisions Day is to encourage hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, continuing care retirement communities, and hospices to participate in a statewide effort to provide clear and consistent information to the public about advance directives, as well as to encourage medical professionals and lawyers to volunteer their time and efforts to improve public knowledge and increase the number of Alaska’s citizens with advance directives.

WHEREAS, the Foundation for End of Life Care in Juneau, Alaska, and other organizations throughout the United States have endorsed this event and are committed to educating the public about the importance of discussing healthcare choices and executing advance directives.

Of those that don't believe President Obama was born in the United States ("Birthers"), a resounding 66% said Palin would be their ideal presidential candidate.

That's too many rubes for mass media to ignore - after all, they have products to sell!

Quote o' the day!

Ultra-conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer wrote that having a rational debate about health care reform required "asking Sarah Palin to leave the room."

         Afro              Wink

Ol' Krauthammer isn't my cup of tea, but at least he does prefer some rationality in his politics!

“I’m trying to remember if I’ve met [Sarah Palin] before. I’m sure I must have. What is she, the governor of Guam?”

 - Shrub, after Sarah Palin was proposed by John McCain as his running mate.

Sarah Palin has finished her memoir just four months after the book deal was announced! Her publisher says the release date has been moved up from the spring to November 17th.

Wow, only four months! I wonder how many boxes of crayons she used?

South Korea has announced they will spend 38 billion dollars to research, develop and implement green energy solutions.

Europe has just announced they will spend 11.7 billion a year for green energy research.

Not to be outdone, Sarah Palin has repeated the "Drill baby, drill!" "solution" on her Facebook page...

This did - predictably - deeelight her supporters!!
