The great unwashed hordes are beaten back in San Diego, none garnering the 50% needed for a general election runoff...

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Four Christian lawyers who vowed to be God's ambassadors on the bench have lost their bids to oust four San Diego Superior Court judges.

With 100% of precincts reporting early Wednesday, incumbent judges Lantz Lewis, Joel Wohlfeil, Robert Longstreth and DeAnn Salcido handily beat the conservative attorneys.

Craig Candelore, Larry "Jake" Kincaid, Bill Trask and Harold J. Coleman Jr. garnered no more than 35 to 40% of each race's vote. They were backed by pastors, gun enthusiasts, and opponents of abortion and same-sex marriages.

Critics said the campaign aimed to pack courts with judges who adhere to a religious agenda, threatening both the impartiality of the court system and the separation of church and state.

A new form of 'spin control'...

In their most tenacious effort to control the ‘spin’ on the worst oil spill disaster in US history, BP has purchased sponsored links at the top of internet search engines, Google and Yahoo. The top listed links direct people to BP's official company website for news and information on the catastrophe.

BP spokesman Toby Odone confirmed to ABC News that the oil giant had in fact bought internet search terms.

The words ‘oil spill’, 'BP oil spill', 'Deepwater Horizon' and 'oil spill response' are among several other related search terms that all lead to the top listed sponsored links purchased by BP.

Tsk, tsk, tsk...

tsk tsk or a reasonable PR attempt? I find the google placement far less offensive than the ads they're running on TV.

The results of today's primary elections should be quite interesting - will the fringe elements of the GOP nominate candidates that can't win a general election?

dang Orly Taitz got clobbered in her attempt to be Sec of State for CA. Tongue

Darn! I do wish she would have won the primary! I guess it shows those polls that claim a majority of Republicans are 'birthers' are incorrect - either that or they've given up the fight...

From the headlines:

Teacher to sue after she is fired over premarital sex

Fourth-grade teacher Jarretta Hamilton was newly married and expecting a baby when she went to speak with her supervisors in April of last year.

But the administrators at Southland Christian School in St. Cloud parried her query about maternity leave with a query of their own: When did she conceive?

After Hamilton admitted that her child had been conceived about three weeks before her February 20, 2009, wedding, the school fired her.

Now she's suing in federal court.

"She wants compensation for the loss of the job, and she's seeking compensatory damages for emotional distress," said Edward Gay, Hamilton's attorney who filed the suit in U.S. District Court in Orlando.

In the complaint, which asks for a trial by jury, Hamilton alleges her termination was based on the fact of her pregnancy — and that the school offended her by disclosing the information about when she conceived to other school staffers and the parents of students Hamilton taught during the 2008-2009 school year.

Hamilton did not authorize the school to reveal that information, according to the complaint.

I could see a case that the school had no right to disclose to others the reason for her firing, and is liable for damages for that reason.

Of course, the smart thing to keep her job would have been to have an abortion to remove the evidence of "fornication".

Senator Byrd has died, and West Virginia has lost their Federal pipeline of dollars, he served his state well. Byrd was an imperfect man to say the least, but his opposition to the war in Iraq was a noble stand...
